St Mary’s Loch and Loch o’ the Lowes, Scotland

Situated in the heart of Scottish Border country on the A708 between Selkirk and Moffat, St Mary’s Loch and Loch o’ the Lowes offers the adventurous pike angler superb sport in a magnificent setting. Dead baits, lures and flies take pike to 25 pounds with the average weight being more than 11lb.

The larger St Mary’s Loch is 3 miles long, half a mile wide and 150 foot deep. The Loch o’ the Lowes is connected to St Mary’s by a small river.

St Mary’s Angling Club controls the fishing, which can be from either the bank or a boat. Day permits, boat hire, and up to date inside information is available from the Loch Keeper on 07980 350031.

Three and Four angler boats complete with oars and life jackets are available for hire. If rowing is not your thing then you can use your own outboard up to a maximum of 4hp. Life jackets must be worn at all times while on the boat.

To protect the indigenous species (Salmon, Sea Trout, Brown Trout, Pike, Perch, Eel, and Three Spined Sticklebacks), any other fish caught in the Loch’s must be humanely dispatched. Contact the Loch Keeper for further advice.
