Lake of Menteith, Stirling, Scotland

The Menteith Hills provide a magnificent backdrop for the Lake of Menteith, a relatively shallow 700-acre water situated on the edge of the Trossachs National Park. The Lake of Menteith is a premier trout and pike fishery offering boat and equipment hire as well as fly fishing tuition for day ticket anglers.

The fishery has quickly gained a reputation as one of the UK’s finest pike waters. In recent years the Pike Anglers Club and Pike Anglers Alliance for Scotland have both negotiated pike fishing days each year for their members with some spectacular results. Not least was the lake record 39lb 8oz pike caught by Lynn Baker during a Pike Angler’s Club organised event. Other notable captures include a 29lb 1oz pike to Dave Morris on a Creek Chub Pikie lure. Full details of Pike Fishing on Menteith are listed on the fishery website.

Reputedly the only ‘Lake’ in Scotland, the Lake of Menteith is home to Inchmahome Priory, a ruined Augustine Priory founded in 1238, which stands on the large island in the middle of this historic Lake. The Trossachs is one of my favourite places in the world. My family have had many holidays at Lochend Chalets which are situated on the banks of the Lake of Menteith. You will receive a warm welcome from Victoria, Topher and Chris and you will definitely want to make a return visit. This area is a real jewel in Scotland and Lochend is a fantastic place to base yourself. The Trossachs offer stunning scenery while being close enough to access the highlands, and still within an hour of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
